Sahana’s Story

Sahana was a vibrant and kind-hearted 12-year-old girl who grew up in a small village in England. Known for her academic brilliance and quiet,
thoughtful nature, she attended one of the UK’s top grammar schools. As well as her academic success, Sahana was always more concerned with the
happiness of others than her own. She had a gift for making people feel seen and valued, and no matter what challenges she faced, she always put
others first.

In late 2021, Sahana began experiencing pain in her knee, a discomfort she quietly endured without complaint. It wasn’t until February 2022 that
doctors noticed an abnormality on an MRI scan, leading to further tests and a biopsy. On March 10th, after an agonising wait, Sahana was diagnosed
with osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer. Though this news was devastating, Sahana, with the unwavering support of her
family, maintained an incredible strength and kept a smile on her face throughout it all.

As she began her treatment at Oxford Children’s Hospital, Sahana continued to brighten the lives of everyone around her. Even while enduring
rounds of chemotherapy and preparing for surgery, she stayed connected with her friends, always making sure they were alright. Her selflessness and
positive outlook were an inspiration to everyone who knew her.

In May 2022, after a successful operation to remove the tum or in her leg, doctors discovered that the cancer had spread to her lungs. Sadly, no
further medical options were available, and Sahana was given palliative care to manage her pain. Throughout her final days, she continued to think of
others, leaving behind a powerful message on several of her paintings: “Be happy.” Even in the face of immense pain, Sahana’s message was
clear—she wanted those she loved to find happiness, no matter the circumstances.

On May 25th, 2022, Sahana passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. Though she was only with us for a short time, her impact on the
world is immeasurable. Sahana’s generosity, and courage in the face of adversity will never be forgotten. She has left a legacy of compassion, and
resilience that continues to inspire those who knew her.

In her memory, the Sahana Foundation was created to support cancer patients and their families, offering help, hope, and comfort during some of
life’s most challenging moments. Sahana’s story reminds us all of the power of selflessness and the importance of cherishing every moment, always
with kindness and a smile.
